Celebrating Friends: A Heartfelt Ode

Celebrating Friends: A Heartfelt Ode

I will cherish the friends I have today,
And know that they will always be there.
Through every storm and changing tide,
They walk beside me, side by side.
Their presence is a steady beacon in the dark,

A comforting warmth, a creative spark.
So let us raise a glass to friendship,
And all the joy it brings.
To the laughter shared in brighter days,
And paths that guide our different ways.
We toast to the secrets told late at night,

And the bonds that keep our spirits light.
To the friends we have, and those we’ve lost,
May we always be close.
Though time and distance may divide,
Their memory stays safe inside.
No matter where the road of life may lead,
A true friend is a treasure indeed.

Can’t We Be Friends

Can’t we be friends despite it all,
Despite the others, just you and me?
Can’t we forget the things that fall
Between us, and be happy free?

Forget the words we’ve said in spite,
The looks that hurt us, and the tears;
Forget the past, and let us write
A new and brighter page of years.

We’ve known the joy of friendship true,
And felt the warmth of love’s caress;
We’ve shared the sorrows and the dew
Of life, and known its bitter stress.

Why should we let the past destroy
The friendship that we hold so dear?
Why should we let the shadows cloy
The sunshine of our lives so clear?

Let’s rise above the petty strife
That clouds our lives with clouds of care;
Let’s clasp our hands and make a strife
Of love and friendship everywhere.

Let’s build anew our shattered dream,
And make our lives a thing of worth;
Let’s live for each other, and redeem
The past by love that knows no dearth.

Can’t we be friends despite it all,
Despite the others, just you and me?
Can’t we forget the things that fall
Between us, and be happy free?

I Am Done

Photo by Liza Summer on Pexels.com

My arms are tired and my hands are sore
From reaching out to you for so long.
I’ve been a fool to think you’d care
Or even know that I was wrong.

I’ve tried to be your friend, but you
Have only pushed me further away.
I’ve given all that I can do,
But it’s not enough for you today.

So I’m done reaching out to you.
I’m done with hoping and with trying.
I’m done with being your fool, too.
I’m done with all of your lying.

I’m not the only one who’s hurt
By the way you’ve treated me.
There are others who have been hurt
By your cold and cruel heart, you see.

So go on and live your life alone.
I don’t need you anymore.
I’m done with being your pawn.
I’m done with being your chore.

I’m done with you, and I’m done with this.
I’m moving on, and I’m not looking back.
I’m done with being your victim.
I’m done with being your lack.

Reaching Out

Photo by Ricky Esquivel on Pexels.com

I reach out my hand, but no one takes it.
I call out, but my voice is unheard.
I am alone in this vast, empty space,
And I am starting to lose hope.

I have tried to reach out to others,
But they have all turned away.
I have tried to speak my truth,
But no one has listened.

I am starting to feel like I am invisible,
Like I don’t even exist.
I am starting to feel like I am all alone in this world,
And that there is no one who cares.

But I know that I am not alone.
There are others who feel the same way.
We are all in this together,
And we will get through this.

We just need to keep reaching out,
Even when it feels like no one is listening.
We just need to keep speaking our truth,
Even when it feels like no one cares.

Because one day, someone will hear us.
One day, someone will care.
And until then, we will keep reaching out,
And we will keep speaking our truth.

We will not give up.
We will not give in.
We will not give up on ourselves,
And we will not give up on each other.

We will keep going,
No matter what.

Poetry Prompt

I miss you, friends, across the miles,
I miss your laughter, smiles, your tales.
I miss our talks, our games, our fun,
I miss the way we used to run.

I miss the way you made me smile,
I miss the way you made me feel.
I miss the way you always knew
How to make me laugh and do.

I miss you when I'm all alone,
I miss you when I'm feeling down.
I miss you all the time, you know,
I miss you more than words can show.

How Long?

How long should we wait for our friends,
To come back to us?
Should we wait a year or a day,
Or a moment or less?

If they are true friends, they will come,
No matter how long we wait.
But if they are false friends, they will not come,
Not even if we wait a day.

So let us wait for our friends,
And I hope that they are true.
And if they do not come, then we must know
That they were not true friends to us.

But we must never give up hope,
For there are true friends in the world.
And if we wait long enough,
They will come to us.

How Long Do You Wait?

How Long Do You Wait?

How long do you wait?
The agonizing silence.
The dread and dismay you feel as you wonder what went wrong.
The gloom and desperation you feel as you reach out to nothing.
How long do you wait?
The harrowing silence.
Dejection and grief you feel as you wonder what went wrong.
The sadness and heartache you feel as you reach out to nothing.
The silence rings in your ears as you feel nothing.
You reach out and grasp, but it is only figments of what was.

Gone

Gone

We used to talk
We used to confide
In each other
But now that is gone.

Something we loved is gone
Broke and gone
Can we still call each other friends?
Will you still be there for me,
When our craft is gone, can we still be kind?

But you made your mind up.
And now it's over!
Your choice, not mine!
It's time for me to go.

Sometimes

Photo by Zach Betten on Unsplash

For a long time, I tried to hold onto friends. I didn’t have many friends but the ones i had I wanted to hold on to. I thought it was a good thing. I always wanted someone to hold onto me, but as i have learned sometimes it’s best to let go. It is a difficult thing for me to let go. I still care, pray and think about these friends, but holding on sometimes leads them to pushing you further and further away. It is a lesson I am still learning and each time it happens, I have to remind myself of it again. This happens with family, as well as friends. Sometimes you must let go of your own sanity. Still, it is difficult for me to let go. I know that if any of these people came to me for help, I would help them. Would I let them back into my life, I really don’t know. It might not be a good idea for me to let them back in, but I don’t always do what is best for me. I forgive easily which is not a bad thing but forgiving and forgetting over and over again only leads to hurt later.

Sometimes
Sometimes you need to know.
When the time has passed.
Sometimes you need to know.
When the friendship is over.

Friends pass over time.
Friends come and go.
That does not mean they do not care
Cherish the times you had with them

Sometimes you need to let go.
Let go and set them free.

Sometimes you need to know.
When the time has passed.
Sometimes you need to know.
When the friendship is over.

Do not hold them back,
Do not make them feel bad
Sometimes it is better to just wish them well
And move on.

When they move on from you,
Do not fret, do not get angry
Wish them well and move on.

Always Alone

As much as I give, I lose.
As much as I care, they don’t.

How do you know how important you are?
Do I think more of you than you think of me?
I am hopeless and alone, always and forever

As much as I help, it’s never enough.
As much as I love, I hurt.

I am not important and never have been.
To those I care about, they care little for me.
I am hopeless and alone, always and forever.

I am the one who gets tossed aside, forgotten each time.
A new thing comes along.
