The Realm of Darkness

I don’t know how we got here. It feels like it happened overnight, but I know that’s not true. Time is irrelevant now. To think that I used to worry about going to school with wet hair and if my clothes were the right style. Now, all I care about is staying alive and helping others stay alive. I am a survivor.
I’ve seen things that no one should ever have to see. I’ve lost people I loved. I’ve been through more pain than I ever thought possible. But I’m still here. I’m still fighting. And I’m not going to give up. None of us are. We are the resistance. We are one of the only holdouts of the human world. I know there are more of us out there, but communications were cut down when the virus took over.
We are scattered and alone, but we are not defeated. We will find each other. We will rebuild. We will reclaim our world. We are the survivors. We are the resistance. My name is Griselda, but people call me Selda. I am a survivor.

Blue Blanket

A small blue blanket lays on the side of the bed.
Tossed aside with holes and tears.
She used to hold it each night,
But as time moved on the blanket
Fell to the side.

A girl runs into her room in tears
Much older now, she lays on the bed and cries.
In the corner, the little blue blanket lays
Wishing to comfort the little girl.

Birth After Miscarriage

Come read my first chapter. If you like what you’ve read. the rest of the story can be found on Amazon and Barnes and Nobles.

Ever since my mother died when I was eleven years old, I wanted to be a mom. She was an amazing and inspiring woman. I hope to one day be half the woman she was.

I didn’t get married to have a baby. I didn’t try to have a family until we were 5 years into our marriage. It gave us the opportunity to spend time together and learn each other on a deeper level.
When Devin said he was ready to be a dad, I was excited. I wanted to make a doctor’s appointment to ensure I was healthy enough to bear a child.

We discussed plans surrounding the baby’s arrival and dreamt sweetly about name options. The thoughts were beautiful. We were ready for this next phase in our lives.

I figured I’d become pregnant immediately, but it did not happen that way. We created a calendar so I could record the basal temperature readings from my ovulation tests along with my ovulation and menstrual cycles. Unfortunately, it became more expensive than we had anticipated it would be.

“Stop buying these tests. We don’t have enough money for you to keep doing this,” Devin kept telling me. “It will happen when God wants it to happen.”

Although I didn’t give up, I didn’t expect to become pregnant. I was frustrated because I thought God wanted me to be a mom. Was something wrong with me? Had I been wrong?

I tested regularly without seeing the results I hoped for. When we first tried to have a baby, I took the pregnancy test before I missed my menstrual cycle. I was so anxious that I circled the earliest dates on my calendar when I could expect the most accurate testing results.

After months of negative outcomes, I gave up on the idea of having a child. I know of women who tried for years without ever becoming pregnant. In comparison, I had not been trying for a long time, but I was still frustrated with the process and the absence of a child.

I went to my doctor for a regular checkup who had become pregnant after enduring a struggle very similar to my own. She was now five months pregnant and thought she should offer her advice.
“Get an ovulation tester. Sperm can live up to five days in the uterus, so it’s good to have sperm in there before you ovulate. The younger the sperm are, the stronger they are. But once the egg drops, you only have twelve hours to fertilize it before it deteriorates.”

Our conversation helped me tremendously. I had been misusing the testers. I thought I should have been indulging in sexual intercourse once I started to ovulate, but that was extremely far from the truth. Starting a few days before I ovulated would increase my chance of becoming pregnant. Once the egg dropped, I would have a supply of sperm waiting for it.

I had always been amazed at how people struck gold on their first try. But, as Devin said, “It will happen in God’s time, not ours.”

Look in the Mirror and See Yourself Clear

If everyone tries to get away from you,
Maybe you are the problem, it’s true.

Take a step back and reflect on your ways,
For change is the only path to better days.

Look in the mirror and see yourself clear,
Identify the traits that you hold so dear.
Are you kind and compassionate, supportive and true?
Or do you bring others down, with words and deeds so shrewd?

If you’re honest with yourself, you’ll see the light,
And find the courage to make things right.
Apologize to those you’ve wronged, and start anew,
With a heart open to love, and a spirit true.

Remember that change takes time, so be patient and kind.
Be the person you want to be, and leave the past behind.
With effort and dedication, you’ll see a transformation,
And attract the friendships you long for, with admiration.

So don’t despair if everyone tries to get away,
See it as an opportunity to change, come what may.
Become the best version of yourself, inside and out,
And the right people will come into your life, without a doubt.

Women Supporting Each Other

Women, oh women, so powerful and strong,
Your friendship is a blessing that lasts all day long.

You lift each other up, you support and inspire,
You’re a beacon of hope, a guiding light in the fire.

You’re there for each other through thick and through thin,
You’re the best of friends, sisters, and even twins.

You celebrate each other’s successes, big and small,
You’re there to catch each other when you fall.

You’re a force to be reckoned with, a force for good,
You’re the women of the world, and you’re understood.

So let’s raise a glass to the women we love,
To the power of friendship, and the blessings from above.

Thank you, women, for all that you do,
We’re grateful for your friendship, and we love you.

Be Someone Others Want to be Around

To be someone others want to be around,
Is a gift, a treasure, a precious crown.
It means you have something special to share,
A light that shines, a heart that’s rare.

You may not know what sets you apart,
But others feel it, right from the start.
You make them laugh, you make them feel good,
You’re the kind of person they’ve always understood.

You’re a listener, a friend, a confidant,
Someone they can trust, someone to rant.
You’re always there, through thick and thin,
A beacon of hope, a comforting grin.

To be someone others want to be around,
Is to have a gift that’s truly profound.
It’s a blessing to cherish, a treasure to hold,
A gift that makes your life worth its weight in gold.

So be proud of who you are, and let your light shine,
For you’re a gift to this world, one of a kind.

New Friends

Made by Author with Canva.com

Friendship is a treasure,
A gift to cherish and hold dear.
It’s a bond that’s strong and sure,
A bond that can’t be bought or sold.

Making new friends is a journey,
A path we walk with open hearts.
It’s a dance of laughter and learning,
A tapestry of shared moments.

To build new friendships, we must be bold,
To step outside our comfort zone.
To offer our true selves to others,
And let our personalities be known.

We must be open to new experiences,
And willing to learn and grow.
To find common ground and shared interests,
And let our friendships blossom and flow.

Making new friends takes time and effort,
But it’s a journey worth pursuing.
For friends make our lives brighter,
And add meaning and joy to our doing.

So let’s all reach out and make new friends,
For friendship is a gift to us all.
Let’s build relationships that last,
And cherish our friends, big and small.

Moving on With Grace

Mistakes, we’ve all made them,
Some small, some big, some grand.
But the ones that hurt the deepest,
Are the ones we can’t take back.

Words spoken in anger,
Actions taken in haste,
Both can leave a scar that festers,
Long after the storm has passed.

We try to apologize,
To make things right again,
But sometimes the damage is done,
And the pain remains.

So let us be mindful,
Of the words we say and deeds we do.
For once they’re out in the world,
We can’t take them back, it’s true.

But though we may regret our mistakes,
They can also teach us valuable lessons.
They can help us grow and learn,
And become better versions of ourselves.

So let us not dwell on our past mistakes,
But rather use them to guide our future way.
For even though we can’t take them back,
We can choose to learn from them,
And move forward with grace.

Not Everyone is Your Friend

Not everyone is truly your friend,
Though they may smile and pretend.
Some may come close with a hidden agenda,
To use you, then leave you a stranger.

Others may envy your success,
And spread rumors, no less.
They may talk behind your back,
And laugh at your every heartbreak.

So be careful who you trust,
And who you let into your life’s crust.
A true friend will be there through thick and thin,
And will always have your back, win or lose.

They will celebrate your victories,
And mourn your losses with empathy.
They will be honest with you, even if it hurts,
Because they want what’s best for you, no matter what.

So cherish your true friends,
And hold them close to your heart.
For they are a rare and precious gift,
That should never be taken for granted.

But remember, you are your own best friend,
So be kind to yourself, and never give up on your dreams.
