Heavy Chains Hold Back

In rows of desks, dreams take their seat,
Young minds ablaze with a burning heat.
They see the stars, a distant gleam,
But heavy chains hold back their dream.

Textbooks whisper of worlds unknown,
Of mountains climbed and battles won.
Their fingers trace the charted course,
But doubt creeps in, a chilling force.

The weight of burdens, unseen walls,
Whisper of limits, destined falls.
A voice unheard, a stifled song,
The fear of failing, crushing strong.

Yet, in their eyes, a flicker burns,
A yearning for lessons life returns.
A chance to break the bonds that bind,
To leave the path, a course they’ll find.

For even wings clipped, dreams take flight,
In stolen moments, bathed in light.
They’ll paint their futures, stroke by stroke,
And find the strength within to poke

A hole in barriers, brick by brick,
With every “no,” their spirits pick
Themselves up, stronger than before,
For even dreams that can’t quite soar

Can take them places, hearts untamed,
A fire lit, a future claimed.
These students, yearning, reaching high,
Will find their wings, and learn to fly.

No Control

No Control

The leaves change colors, and we must accept it.
The air turns cooler, and we can do nothing to stop it.
The days grow shorter and the nights longer.
And still we have no control.

Things change and we must accept it.
Our friendships change, and we can do nothing to stop it.
The days grow shorter and the nights longer.
And still we have no control.

In Silence

In silence I wait, wondering when the time will be when you come to me.
In silence, I wait, wondering what you are doing and if you are okay.

I am silent most of the time. I do not say your name, or speak of you at all.
I am silently waiting for that moment, the breakthrough when you come to me.
I am silently waiting and hoping that I am missed.

In silence, I sit thinking of you and praying that you are okay.
In silence, I wonder what could have been done.
In silence, I wonder if being silent is best.

A Hidden Fire

In classrooms filled with sunlit rows,
A spark of brilliance softly glows.
These students, with a hidden fire,
Hold talents waiting to inspire.

Their minds, like gardens wild and free,
Hold seeds of art, of melody.
Equations sing, their stories bloom,
But sometimes doubt can cloud the room.

A passing grade, a whispered fear,
Can hold them back from reaching here.
The potential, vast and deep,
Needs nurturing, a chance to leap.

So let us fan that inner flame,
With passion’s call, and love’s sweet name.
Challenge their thoughts, let knowledge soar,
Unlock the potential, evermore.

For they are eagles, meant to fly,
To paint the clouds with dreams so high.
With guidance, trust, and open doors,
These capable minds will break all scores.

No Longer Run

Photo by Damir Spanic on Unsplash

I will no longer run after people.
I will no longer seek you out.
I will no longer worry and fret.
I will no longer care.

Life is too short to hold onto people,
Who doesn’t want to be held onto.
Life is too short to work about,
Those who don’t worry about you.
Life’s too short to seek out,
Those who won’t seek you out.

I will no longer run after people.
I will no longer seek you out.
I will no longer worry and fret.
I will no longer care.

If I keep telling myself this,
Maybe I will listen.
Maybe I won’t feel bad,
When I am left in the dust.

A Hollowness Where Pride had Been

The ache that settles deep within,
A hollowness where pride had been.
I built a nest with love so warm,
Yet wings you grew to weather storm.

The paths you walk, so far from mine,
Leave tangled threads, a broken line.
The dreams I held, for you so bright,
Now cast in shadows, lost to sight.

Each harsh word cuts a deeper wound,
A love unspoken, never found.
The distance grows, a chilling space,
Yearning for warmth, a child’s embrace.

But love, like roots, runs strong and true,
It binds us still, in me, in you.
Through tears that fall, a silent plea,
For hearts to mend, for you to see.

For in this love, with all its pain,
A flickering hope might yet remain.
That bridges built, with open hands,
Can heal the hurt, in these barren lands.

The Monster Rises

The Monster Rises
A monster rises up in my soul.
It grows and screams as it infects my heart.
Like a virus, it spreads.
It corrupts as it disseminates.

Be happy for them, a small meal voice whispers to me.

The monster shrieks!

Where were they when it was your turn?
Where were their praises and support?
Why did they pick her and not you?
How can they support him and not you?

Be happy for your friend.
Don’t sour their victory with frets of your own.

The monster bellows from within.

Its voice rattles my bones.
I try to hide it but it’s the monster wails on.

I cover my ears blocking it out.
The small timid voice I hear calling out to me.

Be happy for your friend
Show them support
Do not let this monstrous nature eat away at your soul.

It will leave you in bleak darkness with a hole in your heart.
Fight this creature and be whole.

I sit with my hands over my ears fighting this monster from within.

A Glimmer of Hope

I stand at the door knocking,
As I wait,
But there is no response.
Only darkness meets me there.
Only depression and isolation.

The absence of the warmth,
Of the friendship, I once knew.
I knock again, hoping for a response.
A sign of hope,
A glimmer of trust.
Anything I can hold onto when,
Nothing is given.

I see you from a distance,
And see you with my friends,
But why have I been pushed away?
Why do you shun me and forsake me?
Why and how could you forget me?
Am I that useless and unimportant in your eyes?
How is it that I can fight for you when no one fights for me?

A glimmer of hope is all I need.
Just open a crack to let the light shine in.

A Bitter Truth

A bitter truth, a seed I’ve sown,
Unfairness blooms, a heart I’ve known.
They drift away, a scattered flock,
The mirror shows, the fault’s the rock.

My anger burned, a searing flame,
That you didn’t fight, you weren’t to blame.
For friendships fought for, bonds held tight,
Mine wasn’t worthy, not bathed in light.

The weight of blame, a crushing tide,
But self-deception cannot hide.
“You’re worth it all,” a whispered plea,
But whispers fade, replaced by me.

For in this truth, though sharp and cold,
A chance for growth, a story told.
The issue lies within, I see,
The path to change begins with me.

The Monster Lurks

In shadows deep, where doubt resides,
A monster lurks, with piercing eyes,
It feeds on fear, on insecurities’ sting,
A venomous beast, named jealousy.

With envy’s claws, it grips the heart,
Twisting affections, tearing them apart,
It whispers doubts, inflames the mind,
A poison seeping, leaving scars behind.

Like wildfire spreading, it consumes the soul,
In its wake, trust and love take their toll,
It paints the world in shades of gray,
Where joy and happiness fade away.

Oh, jealousy, the tormentor so sly,
It weaves a web of lies, a tangled tie,
It binds the heart, imprisons the mind,
A captive soul, forever confined.

But break the chains, let reason ignite,
Embrace the light, let darkness take flight,
For love’s true essence, it cannot bind,
It sets the spirit free, leaving jealousy behind.
