The Haunting Obsession

It occupies my vision,
A phantom on the breeze,
The only sound I hear,
A lingering disease.

It hollows out my thoughts
And commands the quiet night;
I cannot sleep or eat,
Obliterating light.

I’m obsessed and possessed,
A willing, broken prize,
I harbor the infection
Behind my staring eyes.

It suffocates the air,
A heavy, rising tide.
I’m losing who I am
With nowhere left to hide.

I scream for an escape,
A way to break the spell,
But I am just a ghost
Inhabiting this hell.

The Voice

The voice in the back of my head.
It tells me that I'm not good enough.
It tells me that I'm not smart enough.

It's the sweating of my palms,
It's the tightening of my heart.

It's the fear of failing,
It's the fear of trying.

The voice in the back of my head.
It tells me that I'm not pretty enough.
It tells me that I'm not cool enough.

It's the fear of rejection,
It's the fear of defeat.

The voice in the back of my head.
I tell it to be quiet.

I tell it that I am good enough
and smart and pretty.

I am good enough!
