Turn to Poetry

Turn to Poetry

When the heart is sad and sore,
When the soul is sick with care,
Poetry with its magic lore
Can make all things seem fair.

In the shadows of the night,
When the world is all alone,
Poetry with its tender light
Can make the darkness shone.

When the spirit is oppressed,
When the heart is all aglow,
Poetry with its soothing rest
Can make the soul grow slow.

When the mind is filled with doubt,
When the soul is all astray,
Poetry with its golden shout
Can make the way seem plain.

So when life is dark and drear,
When the heart is sad and lone,
Turn to Poetry, my dear,
And she will make you strong.

She will take your hand and lead
You through the shadows dim,
And the light of her sweet face will feed
Your soul with hope sublime.

She will sing to you of love,
Of joy and peace and light,
And the world will seem above
All its pain and sin and night.

So turn to Poetry, my dear,
When the heart is sad and lone,
And she will make you strong and clear,
And the world will seem a home.

Night and Day

Night and Day

In the dark of night, the world is full of fear,
The shadows dance and move, and all is drear.
The trees are like great monsters, tall and strange,
The moon is like a demon’s eye, so strange.

The wind is like a scream, the owl is like a wail,
The night is full of danger, and I feel so frail.
I wish that morning would come, and chase away
The fear that fills my heart, and drives me to my bed.

I hide beneath the covers as the darkness grows around,
Listening in the stillness for every haunting sound.
The walls begin to tighten like a vise upon my chest,
And anxiety arises, driving far away all rest.
I pray for dawn to break the gloom and turn the night to day,
To lift the heavy silence and sweep the dark away.

But then the morning comes, and all is bright,
The sun shines down, and all is right.
The trees are like old friends, the moon is like a friend,
The wind is like a soft caress, not like a scream.

The owl is like a wise old sage, who speaks of peace,
The night is full of beauty, and I feel so free.
I wish that I could stay in this bright world all day,
And never have to go back to the dark of night.

Open the doors, let sunlight flood the dust and gloom,
And hide no more, escape this cold and empty room.
The world awaits beyond the latch, vibrant and so vast,
A future built on courage, leaving shadows in the past.
The sun upon my face becomes a promise, clear and bold,
A new and brighter story that is waiting to unfold.

The Mirror’s Truth

The Mirror’s Truth

I know I am not good enough,
I do not need others telling me that.
I know my flaws and shortcomings,
I see them every day in the mirror.

But I am also aware of my strengths,
Of the things I am good at.
I know that I can achieve great things,
If I just believe in myself.

So I will not let others’ words
Defeat me or make me feel worthless.
I will not let them define me,
Or tell me who I am.

I am my own person,
With my own unique journey to walk.
I will not let anyone else
Stand in my way.

I will keep moving forward,
Even when it is hard.
I will keep believing in myself,
Even when others don’t.

Because I know that I am good enough,
Even if they don’t.

The Serendipitous Message

The Serendipitous Message

A flicker in the digital sea,
A ripple in the ocean vast,
Announced a message, unanticipated, free,
A bridge to years and moments past.
No expectation, no alarm,
A serendipitous, sudden light,
A warmth against the day’s long harm,
Dispelling shadows of the night.

The sender’s name, a long-lost friend,
Appeared upon the silent screen,
A cherished sight without end,
Recalling what had been.
A powerful, unexpected force,
Across the void of silent years,
Washing away the quiet remorse,
And vanquishing old, silent fears.

A wave of joy, a deep embrace,
Surged through the heart, dissolving time,
As memories rushed, swift in their chase,
Like a rushing, vibrant tide sublime.
Laughter shared, a youthful sound,
Secrets told in hushed reply,
A core of trust that could be found,
A sturdy thread beneath the sky.

Across the miles that held them fast,
The vital connection instantly made,
The digital form, a vessel cast,
Where friendship’s enduring flame was played.
Passionately kindled, burning bright,
Unafraid of intervening years,
A testament to affection’s might,
Dispelling all the rising tears.

The quick exchange of grateful hearts,
A quiet acknowledgement of grace,
The inner vision of eyes that starts,
Smiling across time and space.
This sudden reunion, taking flight,
A potent reminder, clear and true,
Some bonds are not defined by sight,
But by a spirit time can’t undo.

I am Broken

I am broken.

The words, sharp and unwarranted,
slice through the fragile shell I built.
Tiny, invisible blades, their power immense,
carving my heart into scattered, irreparable pieces.

My carefully constructed dreams,
ambitious plans, vital goals—
all crumble before this onslaught,
a lifetime of building reduced to dust.
My essence, fractured, lies on the cold floor.

Why do these ephemeral sounds,
mere vibrations in the air, hurt so?
Why grant them such devastating power,
to tear the fabric of our being,
to leave us utterly immobilized?

With a deep, shuddering breath, I rise.
Muscles protest, heavy with despair.
I kneel, picking mangled, bleeding pieces
from the unforgiving floor,
cradling the remnants, a silent cry.

I try, with feverish intensity, to mend—
reaching for glue, tape, harsh staples.
But none of them hold.
The cracks are too deep, the breaks too fundamental.
A heart shattered by words
cannot be fixed by physical objects

Again, the haunting question returns:
Why do I give words this power?
Why allow such deep, lingering pain?

Yet, the act of kneeling has shifted something.
I stand up, not whole, but resilient.
I place my broken, but still beating, heart
back into my chest,
and with a final act of defiance, I dust myself off.

The reality remains:
Words possess the power to tear us down,
to reduce us to rubble,
weapons that wound the soul.

But words are not solely destruction.
They possess the capacity to restore.
A single, well-placed phrase—
of kindness, encouragement, or understanding—
can be the foundation upon which we rebuild.

Love, in its purest expression,
is the ultimate healing force,
articulated through sincere, positive words,
what ultimately saves us all.

Words can tear you down.
Words can also lift you up.

Choose your words with the highest intention.
Strive always to lift a spirit,
to reinforce worth, to acknowledge a presence.

Never fail to be kind.
Kindness is the shield against the world’s harsh words,
the balm for its inflicted injuries.

Remember this immutable truth:
Words are a powerful, double-edged sword.
They can drag someone into the deepest pit of despair,
or elevate them to heights of strength and hope.

Use this profound tool with meticulous care.
Wield your words to heal, to encourage, and to restore.
