Insomnia

The night is here, yet here I sit With eyes that would not close, And thoughts that wander through my head And will not let me doze. My mind is tired, my body tired, And yet I cannot sleep; I feel as though I've been on guard For days without a break. The worries of the day are gone, But still I cannot rest; I feel as though there's something more That I must do, or else. I know not what it is, but still It haunts me to the core; It keeps me from my bed, and keeps My mind from wandering o'er. I'll try to sleep, but I know well That sleep will not come soon; I'll try to rest, but I know well That rest will not be won. So here I sit, with eyes that would Not close, and thoughts that wander on, And I will sit until the dawn And then I'll try again to sleep.
Done But Not Forgotten

The day is done, and the darkness Falls from the wings of Night, As a feather is wafted downward From an eagle in his flight. I see the lights of the village Gleam through the rain and the mist, And a feeling of sadness comes o'er me, That my soul cannot resist: A feeling of sadness and longing, That is not akin to pain, And resembles sorrow only As the mist resembles the rain. Come, read to me some poem, Some simple and heartfelt lay, That shall soothe this restless feeling, And banish the thoughts of day. Not from the grand old masters, Not from the bard's sublime, Whose distant footsteps echo Through the corridors of Time.
Friends Whom Have Left

Friends who have left us for a season, Come again to us, we plead. Bring the gladness of your presence, Fill our hearts with joy and peace. We have missed your loving voices, We have missed your cheerful smile, We have missed the strength and courage That your presence ever gave. Come again, and bring the sunshine Of your sunny, cheerful face. Come again, and fill our hearts With the gladness of your grace. We have waited long for you, friends, We have waited patiently. Come again, and bring us gladness, Come again and make us free.
Indie Writing Advice (Indie Writer Series #3)

I have been writing on and off all of my life. Of course, when I was in school it was mostly for assignments, and things of that nature. But in my early 30s, I caught the writing bug and never looked back. I am what people call an indie writer because I am self-published. And I have learned so many things on this journey, which is not over. I have many ideas that I want to work on.
One of the biggest things I can tell other writers, especially those in the beginning of their writing career, is this.Â
- Do not compare yourself to anyone, and I mean anyone. People will tell you all sorts of things to make themselves look better than they are. They will tell you they wrote 10,000 words today, or they wrote 100,000 thousand words this month. They will tell you all of these things and more. Maybe they did write that much, and if they did, good for them, but do not try to measure yourself against this. I am lucky if I write 1,000 words a week!Â
- Do not compare your first draft to anything. It is a first draft, and you will rewrite and edit many times before getting it right. Â
- Take everyone’s advice with a grain of salt. What works for one might not work for someone else.Â
- Do not try to be everything. As indie writers, we have to be many things, writers, artists, editors, marketers, and so on. No one is expecting you to be great at all of these things. I for one suck at marketing, but I am learning. The more I work at it the better I get. But do not get down about yourself when you struggle with it. There are others out there that can help. I for one always hire and editor.Â
Overall, do this for yourself. There are many writers out there, but you are the only you. We want to hear your story. So don’t get discouraged, just be yourself.Â
